"This week, the Victorian Government launched a truth telling commission to investigate the ongoing effects of colonisation on the state's indigenous community.

The commission aims to investigate both historical and ongoing injustices against Aboriginal Australians.

It's the first inquiry of its kind in Australia and has been compared to South Africa's truth and reconciliation commission.

But South Africa is one of more than 40 countries which have established truth commissions to provide restorative justice from civil war, colonialism, human rights abuses or authoritarian rule."
