Statement on the Orlando Shooting

In solidarity with all of our communities at Cornell University and in Ithaca, the Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, the Latino/a Studies Program, and the Africana Studies and Research Center would like to take the opportunity to extend our condolences to the families and friends of members of those who were killed in Orlando on June 12, 2016. Our thoughts are also with the wounded and their families and friends. At the same time, we want to state that we unequivocally denounce the hate crime that has produced the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States as well as the harm and loss of lives that have resulted from continuing direct and indirect acts of bigotry. We must all stand with those who have been the objects of this sort of violence, and with those who might be in the future, and rewrite the rhetoric of hate into one of respect and care.
